Laser marking of wood – the key facts summarized

Medium-density fiberboards (MDF) consist of defibrated, mostly bark-free softwood. These fibers are gently pressed together, so that a homogeneous material is formed. This material is less “stubborn” than natural wood. Oriented strand boards (OSB) have the same characteristics as MDFs, the wood chips are just a little more coarse. The marking’s quality very much depends on the binder and shows in different shades of brown.
All natural woods vary in structure and remaining humidity, so that the marking result can be very different in its brown to black coloration.
